No foul play suspected in off-campus student death

Boone Police responded with Watauga Medics to 451 Yosef Drive on Friday. John Dallas Bunch IV, a sophomore computer science major, was found dead when officials arrived. There are no indications of foul play, according to a press release from Boone Police.

Boone Police Department reported in a press release Monday that they responded with Watauga Medics to 451 Yosef Drive in reference to “an unresponsive male” just before 2:30 p.m. on Sept. 25. First responders determined that the male was deceased, according to the release.

The male was identified as 20-year-old John Dallas Bunch IV, a sophomore computer science major at Appalachian State University.

The cause of death is unknown pending results of the autopsy and toxicological testing from the medical examiner, but there are no indications of foul play, according to the press release.

Boone Police Department Investigators responded to the scene and have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances of the death.

The address given in the police report is an apartment complex in Mountaineer Village student apartments.

The Appalachian has reached out to Appalachian State for a comment, but they have not yet responded.
