The second episode of “Survivor 50: In the Hands of the Fans” began with a shot of the Vatu tribe watching Kyle Fraser drive off in a boat. Fraser left the show prematurely due to an injury.
“In a game where you can trust no one, Kyle felt like home and warmth and security,” Genevieve Mushaluk said.
Reward Challenge:
Before the Reward Challenge started, the three tribes discussed Fraser going home.
“It’s one thing to get voted out of the game, but to be pulled out ‘cause of an injury, like, they’re so hard to prevent. It’s so early in the game, too. It’s not even like a medevac later on in the game,” an emotional Kamilla Karthigesu said through tears.
The Reward Challenge involved leaping off a platform to smash a tile that released a key. The players then had to cross multiple balance beams before swimming to the finish. After all keys were obtained, players had to dive into the ocean to release rings which would then be thrown onto poles. The reward for the two winning tribes was a camp improvement kit.
Cila was the first to release their rings thanks to Savannah Louie. Aubry Bracco created a setback for Vatu when she missed her tile.
With Rick Devens as their tosser, Cila landed their three rings first with Kalo following closely behind. Vatu returned from the Reward Challenge with nothing.
Cila:
Christian Hubicki experienced a wide range of highs and lows on the Cila beach.
“So, there are many elements of being human,” Hubicki said. “Laughing, crying, cuddling a loved one, but also the sheer and utter embarrassment of unexpected gastrointestinal distress.”
Despite the embarrassment he felt, Hubicki also found the Billie Eilish Boomerang Idol hidden on the Cila tribe’s beach. He decided to send it to Bracco.
Vatu:
On Vatu, Mushaluk grew suspicious of Bracco.
“There’s been something that seems so strange to me, and I’m just a suspicious gal by nature,” Mushaluk said. “What I think I notice is Aubry being a little more precious with her bag. I start to think, if I found a Boomerang Idol on day four, maybe other tribes have found it, which means someone could have an idol on my beach without me ever being able to see that they were looking for an idol.”
Mushaluk and the rest of Vatu decided to search through Bracco’s bag while she sat on the beach.
The players created a plan from lookouts to distractions that allowed Mushaluk to meticulously look through Bracco’s bag. However, they found nothing. Luckily for Bracco, this was before Hubicki sent her the Billie Eilish Boomerang Idol.
Kalo:
On the Kalo tribe, Benjamin “Coach” Wade and Jonathan Young went spearfishing in the ocean. After a bit of fishing, Wade’s legs cramped up and he had to be rescued by the “Survivor” safety swimmers.
“Coming out here, you always wonder in your psyche if you’re gonna be good enough to play this game — physically, mentally, spiritually,” Wade said. “And I thought, ‘I’m physically ready to rock this.’ Go out in the ocean. And I would have died if it wouldn’t have been for Jonathan.”
Immunity Challenge:
This episode’s Immunity Challenge involved retrieving three giant fake snakes from the jungle then maneuvering them through an obstacle course. After obtaining all three snakes, three tribe members had to work together to move a ball through a snake-shaped maze.
All the tribes remained neck-and-neck throughout obtaining the three snakes.
Cila was the first to start on the snake maze. Never dropping their ball, Vatu completed the maze first. Both Kalo and Cila dropped their ball. Kalo beat Cila, earning them immunity along with Vatu.
Tribal Council:
With Cila once again going to Tribal, it seemed anyone was on the chopping block.
“It’s gonna be really difficult going to the second Tribal Council tonight,” Devens said. “A lot more difficult than going to the first because the first Tribal, there was a consensus for Jenna. But right now, our options are aplenty.”
The main players brought up in conversation were Louie and Ozzy Lusth. Cirie Fields worked hard to turn the vote onto Louie simply by providing the pros and cons to her tribemates.
“All I do is provide you with the information for you to compare the two, and then you come up with your decision that may be my decision,” Fields said.
As a thank you, Lusth gave Fields his extra vote as a sign of trust and to increase the duo’s odds of voting off Louie.
A disagreement between Devens and Joe Hunter put Hunter’s name on the chopping block.
With Tribal coming up, Hubicki and Devens made a plan to hide a fake idol at Tribal Council to cause chaos.
Louie was ultimately voted out at Tribal Council. Due to Fields’ hard work, Louie had her torch snuffed for the first time in her “Survivor” career.
