As finals approach, taking care of and prioritizing your mental health is crucial. One way to do this is through attending the National Alliance on Mental Illness’ monthly meeting in room 413 of the Plemmons Student Union from 6:15-7:15 p.m. The event will consist of a check-in, an educational session and a group discussion.
Tuesday, April 28
Another way to take care of your mental health and counter the end-of-semester fatigue is through attending Destress Yosef on the fourth floor of the Student Union from 1-4 p.m. The event is organized by the Appalachian Popular Programming Society and Campus Activities, which will provide snacks, peaceful activities and a variety of goodies to take home.
Prevent waste and celebrate Earth Month by donating old clothes and replacing them with new ones at the Free Store Roadshow. Outside of trading in clothes, the event is free — no strings attached. Sustainability and Energy Management is holding this event in the International Hallway of the Student Union from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Wednesday, April 29
Also held by Sustainability and Energy Management, Waste Wise Wednesday is a sorting game that teaches participants what to and what not to recycle. Winners receive a raffle ticket that places them in the running for a haul of Sustainability and Energy Management merchandise. The event will take place in Central Dining Hall from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Old-Time Jam at the Jones House
Jones House Cultural Center will be holding its weekly old-time jam session from 7-10 p.m. All acoustic instruments and levels of skill are invited to join. You don’t have to play to attend; all that is asked of participants and observers is to be respectful to the musicians.
Friday, May 1
IF4 Int’l Fly Fishing Film Festival
Reel in May by attending IF4, the International Fly Fishing Film Festival, presented by The Speckled Trout Outfitters at 6:30 p.m. at The Appalachian Theatre of the High Country. The festival is the world’s leading fly-fishing film event, showing pieces by professionals from around the world that embody the spirit of fly-fishing and its community. Tickets can be purchased on The Appalachian Theatre’s website.
The Turchin Center for the Visual Arts is holding a First Friday Art Crawl from 4-8 p.m. This free event celebrates local artists and their work. A guided tour will start at 4 p.m., and other events will take place from 5-8 p.m.
Saturday, May 2
The Appalachian Theatre will screen the 2025 film “Song Sung Blue” at 6 p.m. with doors opening at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $6. Starring Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson, the film is a musical drama based on the true story of Mike and Claire Sardina. Hudson was nominated for Best Actress for her performance as Claire Sardina.
