“Mindfulness and Mental Health” with Dr. Cuong Mai and Dr. Matt Ruble
High Country Humanities and the Department of Philosophy and Religion are presenting the “Philosophy and Religious Studies in the Contemporary World” series. Cuong Mai, an associate professor of religious studies, and Matt Ruble, a senior lecturer in philosophy, will be speaking at the first of two events in this series from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at the Turchin Center for the Visual Arts, room 1102. Mai will be discussing the question “Is Mindfulness Buddhist?” Ruble will discuss how philosophy contributes to an understanding of mental health and mental illness.

Trivia Night with App Votes: Local Civics Edition
Whether interested in local civics, trivia or the chance to win up to six drinks from Crossroads, show up for local civics trivia night from 6:30-7 p.m. at Crossroads Cafe in Plemmons Student Union. This event is hosted by the Student Government Association and Community Engaged Leadership in collaboration with App Votes.

Study abroad Info Session: Cultural Engagement and Leadership in Japan
App State will be sending students to study abroad in Japan from June 12-23. Students interested in this trip will want to attend this information session in Plemmons Student Union, room 417, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The session will discuss the curriculum, travel, course requirements and application process for the Cultural Engagement and Leadership in Japan study abroad program. Women’s Tennis vs. UNC-Asheville
The App State women’s tennis team is hosting UNC-Asheville at the App State Tennis Courts at the Appalachian 105 Complex at 2 p.m. No tickets are required to attend.

The Appalachian State women’s basketball team is hosting the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks at the Holmes Convocation Center at 1 p.m. Tickets are free for students, but an AppCard is required for entry.
