After finishing off the homestand that was moved around due to Hurricane Helene, App State women’s soccer took to the road and headed north to Marshall Sunday. The Mountaineers have not lost a game in over a month and were looking to keep that streak alive against the Thundering Herd.
Just eight minutes into the game, Marshall’s Kajsa Ekstrom opened the scoring. The goal was assisted by Ami Komori and Lea Misch. The half ended with no other scoring and both teams headed into the locker room with the Thundering Herd up 1-0. App State took five shots with three on target and Marshall took five shots with two being on target.
The second half started slow until App State was finally able to get on the scorer’s card in the 70th minute. The goal was scored by graduate student defender Mumu Guisasola, which was her first goal of the season. The goal was assisted by junior defender Shannon Studer.
The game ended with both teams level in scoring, 1-1. App State took 12 shots with five of them being on target while Marshall took 10 shots with three of them being on target. The Mountaineers were able to make two saves and the Thundering Herd was able to make four saves.
App State was better than Marshall in the foul department. The Mountaineers only fouled the Thundering Herd four times, while Marshall fouled App State 16 times. However, every foul from the Mountaineers resulted in a yellow card.
The Black and Gold are back on the road to James Madison on Thursday. The Dukes are first in the Sun Belt East and the entire conference with 16 points while App State is third in the Sun Belt East with nine points. The game will kick off on Thursday at 7 p.m. and will be streamed live on ESPN+.
