On Tuesday, App State women’s track and field traveled to Birmingham, Alabama for the Sun Belt Indoor Championship. As a team, the Mountaineers placed fourth with 70.33 points overall.
In the 60-meter dash preliminaries, junior Kendall Johnson qualified with a time of 7.32 seconds. In the finals, she took second with a 7.36 time, narrowly missing first place by 0.01 seconds.
Two Mountaineers qualified to advance past the preliminaries in the 200-meter dash: Johnson and senior Damyja Alejandro-Ortiz. In the finals, Johnson placed sixth, with a 24.17 time, and Alejandro-Ortiz placed eighth, with a 25.21 time.
In the 400-meter dash, junior Jayla Adams had a time of 55.36, and Alejandro-Ortiz had 55.60. They placed fourth and fifth, respectively.
Qualifying for the finals in the 800-meter run, senior Addison Ollendick-Smith had a time of 2:14:02, and freshman Josie Jackson had a 2:14:42 time. In the finals, Ollendick-Smith placed fourth, and Jackson placed seventh.
App State took third place in the 4×400-meter relay. Junior Nicole Wells, Adams, sophomore Ja’Naya Linder and Alejandro-Ortiz recorded a new school record of 3:41.81.
The women’s pole vault was a success. Senior Ava Studney took first place with a 4.08-meter jump. Following close in third, sophomore Lilly Nichols had a height of 3.88 meters.
On Saturday, the Mountaineers travel to Staten Island, New York to compete in the USA Track & Field Indoor Championships.
