Appalachian State student found dead in apartment

Boone police have released the name the individual found dead at 196 Oak St.

According to a press release, Daniel Lewis Fritz, 27, was a senior student at Appalachian State. He was found at approximately 1 p.m.  on Wednesday when police responded to a welfare check.

Police found equipment for manufacturing the hallucinogenic drug DMT after entering Fritz’ apartment.

Residents were asked to relocate until the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation finished their investigation on the scene.

Investigators saw no signs of foul play and are awaiting autopsy results from Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
