ASUPD reports unattended death at APH

UPDATE, 4:37 p.m. Jan. 21, 2015: Appalachian State University police identified the deceased student as Mary-Catherine Johnson, 19, of Raleigh. The investigation uncovered no foul play or evidence  to suggest there is a threat to the university community, according to an email from university police.

The university is offering counseling to those affected by Johnson’s death. Visit appcares.appstate.edu for more information.

The body of a deceased Appalachian State University student was found during a welfare check by University Police at Appalachian PanHellenic Hall at 5:45 p.m. Jan. 19, according to a university release.

The release stated that police used a key to enter the room and discovered the body. No foul play is suspected and the situation presents no threat to the community. University Police is continuing to investigate the incident.

The Appalachian will continue to provide updates as more information is provided.
