App State women’s tennis began its long trip away from the High Country as the team traveled to Norfolk, Virginia Friday and to Greenville Sunday.
The Mountaineers faced off against No. 62 Old Dominion University for a 5-2 defeat before facing East Carolina University Sunday, where they won 4-2.
Senior No. 9 Savannah Dada-Mascoll and sophomore Ruby Broadbent both went undefeated in the singles portion of their matches, with Dada-Mascoll moving her singles winning streak to 16. In the doubles portion, no team went undefeated, as all duos either lost or had their match go unfinished against ODU.
The doubles sections of both matches went in opposite directions as App State lost all matches against the monarchs but turned around and destroyed the Pirates’ duos. No Pirates team won more than 3 games.
On the singles side, App State went 5-7 over the weekend with 2 wins against the Monarchs and 3 against the Pirates. Freshman Allegra Hodson was the only other Mountaineer to win a singles match other than Broadbent and Dada-Mascoll.
In her singles match against the Monarchs, junior Naledi Manyube faced off against No. 115 Victoria Matasova. Manyube won the first set before having to retire during her match due to an injury. She did not play against ECU. Manyube’s current season record sits at 6-10.
App State now looks ahead to the final month of the season, as it opens April with a rivalry weekend matchup Friday against Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Georgia before a Saturday faceoff against Coastal Carolina University in Conway, South Carolina. Both matches begin at 10 a.m.
