Playlist of the week: Paging all lovers of ‘The Pitt’

It’s 9 o’clock. The day shift ended two hours ago, but the chaos of the emergency room never seems to end as the doctors at Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center are losing hope in making their 4th of July after-work plans.

With the season two finale of the HBO Max original series “The Pitt” now streaming, excitement for the closing of this chapter in these characters’ lives is at a high, and a fascination with all things medical has been rekindled in many hearts.

Whether you have already finished the finale or still haven’t had the chance, this playlist of medical-related music may be just what you’re looking for to feel like you, too, are in “The Pitt.”

Songs such as “How to Save a Life” by The Fray and “Under Pressure” by Queen and David Bowie set the scene for what it means to be a doctor, while songs like the Bee Gees’ “Stayin Alive” and Demi Lovato’s “Heart Attack” invoke what it might feel like to be a patient.

“Bad Medicine” by Bon Jovi calls to mind Dr. Melissa King’s malpractice deposition, and Ariana Grande’s “no tears left to cry” reminds viewers of Dr. Cassie McKay’s feelings of being too numb to do so.

Dr. Michael Robinavitch and charge nurse Dana Evans may be at their wits’ end with the horrors and mistreatment they face, but they refuse to quit, a sentiment well reflected in Shawn Mendes’ “In My Blood.”

One of the many things viewers love about “The Pitt” is its discussion of trials doctors and nurses face within the healthcare system and their personal lives. The show reminds the audience that though healthcare workers are as close to superheroes as a person can be, they are still “Only Human,” as the Jonas Brothers might put it, and sometimes just need to “Breathe” in the words of Taylor Swift and Colbie Caillat.
