Playlist of the week: Aries season with Aries artists

Hamal is the brightest star in the Aries constellation, directly translating to “sheep” from Arabic to English, and yet Aries artists refuse to be sheeped into normality time after time. Artists like Elton John, Lady Gaga and Marvin Gaye pioneered their own genres of music, paving the way for artists to pursue musical paths just like them.

Aries is considered the first sign in astrology, according to Britannica, and is symbolized by the ram. Occurring from March 21 to April 19, they are considered to be energetic and courageous people, characterized by their fierce independence and strong knack for leadership, as shown in the creative musical choices displayed in this playlist.

Set apart by their willingness to take risks within music, Aries artists blend genres and fuse traditions to create new and enticing material. Their music reflects authenticity and leadership, showing their ability to create not just new music but cultural change as well.

Aries artists are known for some of music’s most iconic hits, such as featured songs “Bennie And The Jets” by ‘80s icon Elton John, as well as the romantic hit synonymous with the nineties, “Fast Car” by Tracy Chapman.

As the Aries season comes to a close, take the time to appreciate these artists for the music they’ve created and the genres they’ve influenced. These tracks take listeners — Aries or not — through melodic oldies, 2000s dance hits and heartfelt ballads that reflect the fierce competitiveness and passion that Aries leaders are known for.
