Playlist of the week: Pop-punk revival flashes back to 2016

Despite it being 2026, it looks like something took everyone back to 2016 in one of the most recent trends across social media. Let’s take a look back at the possible revival of pop-punk.

Between 5 Seconds of Summer returning to pop-punk in their latest album, “Everyone’s A Star!” and new artists singing in the genre, a new era of pop-punk is here. However, a look back to 2016 shows familiar bands Green Day, blink-182 and Panic! At The Disco who were staples a decade ago and made way for other artists to fill in the pop-punk scene. Artists that look to be filling in have this 5S0S-style beat in their music, like MICO in his most recent single, “Without Me,” and also have raspy pop-punk-like vocals, like Aries in “ANESTHESIA” and Machine Gun Kelly in “vampire diaries,” songs from their most recent albums.

This playlist gives a balance of 2016 throwbacks and recent works from artists to show that, while the 2016 trend may be short-lived, pop-punk is here to stay.
