National Library Week: Belk Library Scavenger Hunt #1
National Library Week kicks off with a scavenger hunt in Belk Library and Information Commons. The provided materials include a scavenger hunt sheet and a list of places to discover within the library. The first participant to complete the hunt will receive a prize. The event will be held from 2-3 p.m.
Tuesday, April 21
Wellness and Prevention Services will host Take Back the Night in Crossroads from 5:30-7 p.m. The event will feature testimonies from survivors of sexual assault and raise awareness for domestic violence.
With less than a month until graduation, Senior Day gives students a chance to showcase their accomplishments alongside an opportunity to celebrate. Activities and giveaways will be hosted by Appalachian Popular Programming Society. The event will take place on Sanford Mall from 1-3 p.m.
Wednesday, April 22
Sustainability and Energy Management is hosting an Earth Day Expo, an all-day event on Sanford Mall to celebrate sustainability. Organizations will represent the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development goals, and students can participate in a challenge by learning at least 10 of the 17 goals to earn a limited edition Earth Day T-shirt.
Thursday, April 23
Orchesis’ Cinnamon and Salt Annual Art Showcase
Orchesis Alliance is hosting an art and talent showcase in Crossroads from 5-8 p.m. Anyone is welcome to attend, and showcases include dance, comedy, art, movement and song.
Community-Engaged Leadership presents a trivia night in Crossroads from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Winning trivia team members are allowed a free coffee, and all participants have the opportunity to win free merchandise.
Friday, April 24
Another event celebrating Earth Month is the Spring Closet Clean-Out, an opportunity for students to swap and trade items of clothing. Students can update their wardrobes for the new weather as well as learn about resources through Sustainability and Energy Management. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the event will take place at two locations: Sanford Mall and the quad between Thunder Hill, Raven Rocks and Laurel Creek hall.
Etienne Charles: “Earth Tones”
Composer and trumpeter Etienne Charles will perform at the Schaefer Center for the Performing Arts at 7:30 p.m. His work highlights the impact of climate change on marginalized communities. Student tickets are $10 and vary based on tier for others.
Saturday, April 25
The fourth annual Boone Earth Film Fest will take place at 1:30 p.m. at the Appalachian Theatre of the High Country. The event will be a collection of short films and documentaries, as well as a discussion with experts and filmmakers. The festival will spotlight issues surrounding Appalachia related to climate change.
