App State women’s tennis traveled down to Rome, Georgia, for the Sun Belt Tournament. The team entered the tournament as the sixth seed, pitted against the 11th-seeded Southern Mississippi University Golden Eagles in the first round Thursday.
The Mountaineers handled the Golden Eagles 4-1. Senior Savannah Dada-Mascoll won her doubles match 6-1 and her singles matchup in two sets, 6-2 and 6-1, extending her singles win streak to 21.
The Black and Gold won all singles matches, with freshman Sreenidhi Balaji, sophomore Ruby Broadbent and freshman Allegra Hodson all coming out on top.
App State found itself matched up with third-seeded Troy University Trojans in the quarterfinals Friday, where the team squeaked out a 4-2 win.
The Mountaineers stole the doubles points, winning the first and second matches, while the third match went unfinished.
App State then won three of the six singles matches behind strong showings from Dada-Mascoll and Hodson, who secured the win.
However, the Mountaineers’ hot streak was put out by the 10th-seeded Marshall University Thundering Herd, 4-3.
Balaji and Hodson were the only doubles team to win their match. Hodson also won her singles match, giving her an undefeated day.
The Black and Gold battled in the singles matches but ultimately came up short.
