News and art are mediums of communication which intersect and interact through many vectors. I am exceedingly grateful that The Appalachian is a place for burgeoning creatives to hone their skills, collaborate, make a local impact and gain real experience through their editorial contributions.
I have grown a lot as an artist, designer and illustrator through my time as a graphics artist for The Appalachian. I never would have imagined myself as a member of the Editorial Board if it were not for the eagerness and openness the visuals teams have to anyone who wishes to be a part, regardless of expertise.
We have a lot of knowledge to share, and I would encourage any creative person who’s trying to find some real experience in art, writing, photography or whatever to give one of our desks a shot.
