App State men’s and women’s golf found themselves on two different sides of the South Carolina coast Monday, as the men were in North Myrtle Beach for the Surf Club Invitational while the women’s team was in Hilton Head for the Low Country Intercollegiate. Senior Aidan Browning led the men’s side with a -5 and a 14th place finish while junior Ona Lukes’ +8 was good for a tied-4th place position for the women’s team.
The Mountaineer men could only muster a 9th place finish in the 18 team tournament, shooting a team total of -4. Junior Rob Bergevin was the only other golfer wearing Black and Gold to place in the top 25, shooting a -3.
The Lady Mountaineers placed 2nd out of 15 teams, only behind the University of North Carolina Asheville who dominated the field. The Bulldogs shot a +37 which was 18 points ahead of App State.
Behind Lukes’ great performance, the women’s side got great help from freshmen Zoe Duval and Alisa Pressley. Duval placed 14th shooting a +12, while Pressley placed 15th, shooting a +14.
While the two teams played on the same day and in the same state this time, they will separate for the remainder of the schedule. The men will look forward to the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate in Awendaw, South Carolina March 22-24. The women will be sidelined until they travel to Morganton for the Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate March 30-31.
