The Duke Invitational was held from Thursday to Saturday this past week.
App State track and field traveled to Duke University in its fifth meet of the outdoor season.
On Friday, sophomore thrower Christopher Stewart placed third in men’s discus. He set a personal record of 52.58 meters.
Sophomore distance runner Savannah Moore represented the Black and Gold in the women’s 1500-meter. While setting a personal best, Moore placed first with a time of 4:25.62.
Being the only Mountaineer to represent App State in the men’s 3000-meter, sophomore distance runner Thomas Wlazlowski placed first. Beating second place by over 4 seconds, he ran a time of 8:53.07.
On Saturday, App State’s senior pole vaulter Ava Studney placed third in the women’s pole vault, with a 4.08-meter jump. Sophomore pole vaulter Lilly Nichols placed fifth, with a 4.08-meter jump.
In the men’s pole vault, junior pole vaulter Matthew Gray scored a 5.46-meter jump, taking home first place.
Setting a season best, the Black and Gold took first place in the women’s 4×400-meter relay with a time of 3:41.88.
Mountaineer track and field returns on Thursday at Wake Forest University. The team will travel to Winston-Salem for the Wake Forest Invitational.
