Senior Goodbye: Cory Spiers

The Appalachian Online

Cory Spiers

As I leave the position of sports editor, I can’t help but feel compelled to use a sports analogy.

That’s only appropriate, right?

Like the two-minute warning or the bottom of the ninth, the end of the line is almost here for me, but I wouldn’t change a thing about the way my game played out.

I have loved providing the Boone community all of their sports news over the past year and a half. It has truly been an honor.

While there have been some frustrations in my college career, I have met friends who will be some of my best for life and have had the honor of working with some incredible people at The Appalachian.

Everyone’s time runs out eventually.

Every game ends, the fans go home and the lights go out.

When I walk across the stage in a few short days to receive my degree, it won’t necessarily feel like the end of my career, however.

Rather, it’s me moving on to a new chapter, and no matter where I end up, I will always remember the mountains, the black, the gold and all the chants that came from the student section on game day on Saturdays.

For those who have enjoyed reading the sports section and the incredible people I have met along my four-year journey, it’s not goodbye, it’s see you later.

Cory Spiers, a senior journalism major from Charlotte, was the sports editor for the 2014-15 academic year. He was on staff for two-and-a-half years.
