Go on down to the Student Recreation Center from 6-9 p.m. to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the facility being open. University Recreation is hosting a dodgeball tournament on court one at the main gym. Those who are interested should sign up in advance, as teams are limited.
Tuesday, April 14
Join University Recreation for its continued festivities for the 20th anniversary of the SRC with an aquatic night from 7:45-8:45 p.m. There will be paddleboard dodgeball held in the Student Recreation Center pool, where participants are tasked to throw dodgeballs at other players while staying up on their board.
Wednesday, April 15
Join Wellness and Prevention Services for their annual Sex in the Dark event from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in Crossroads. This event will allow open communication about sexual health, intimacy and relationships. Students may remain anonymous, with questions being answered by an Ask Me Anything panel of sexual health experts as they arise.
Thursday, April 16
At 5 p.m., the Boonerang Music & Arts Festival is hosting their second round of Battle of the Bands at the Appalachian Theatre of the High Country, a competition of High Country bands for an opportunity to play at Boonerang in June. The bands that will be featured are AboveGround, Eco Spaceship, Pleasantly Wild and The Great Levelers.
Friday, April 17
From 4-7 p.m., Sustainability and Energy Management is putting on their free Rock N’ Roots concert at the Appalachian Roots Garden on Howard Street to celebrate Earth Month. This event will feature live music, fun activities and information passing from environmental groups on campus. They invite everyone to come on down, bring a blanket and a friend to relax on the lawn for a night of fun.
Pathways to Resilience QEP is hosting a climate stories showcase from 6-8:30 p.m. in the Summit Trail Solarium. This will include various visual and performance pieces that represent the stories of those who are affected by or addressing climate change. This showcase will present paintings, drawings, sculpture, music, poetry, nonfiction pieces, videography, photography and more.
Saturday, April 18
From 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., App State Geek Guild is partnering with the Student Union to host their annual NerdCon. Admission is free, and the convention will feature a wide variety of vendors and artists, panels from club members on various topics, local group performances, a cosplay contest, video game tournament, Dungeons and Dragons one shots, late night karaoke and more.
The Office of Arts and Cultural Programs is bringing folk and contemporary musician Rhiannon Giddens to the Schaefer Center for the Performing Arts from 7:30-10 p.m. Giddens is a two-time Grammy and Pulitzer prize winner, MacArthur ‘Genius’ grant recipient and composer for opera, ballet and film. She has also been named by NPR as one of the 25 Most Influential Women Musicians of the 21st century, among other titles. Student tickets are $25 and can be purchased online.
