App State women’s tennis split a weekend trip to Florida as they defeated Lipscomb University 4-3 Friday but fell to No. 72 University of North Florida 4-2 Saturday. Senior No. 8 Savannah Dada-Mascoll was the lone Mountaineer going undefeated on the weekend with a 3-0 record.
Dada-Mascoll’s three wins extend her win streak to 12, the longest since a 16 game streak in 2024. Her 3-0 record included 2 singles and 1 doubles win with her partner, junior Taya Powell. One of the pairings doubles matches went unfinished but they were losing the match 5-6 before it was called over.
Over the 12 wins, the All-American has only lost 2 sets, the last of which came on Feb. 28 against University of Texas at Arlington. Mascoll’s season record moves to 12-1, with the lone loss coming at the start of the season against University of North Carolina Chapel Hill’s Oby Kajuru.
Every Mountaineer took home at least 1 win over the 2 matches’ singles and doubles portions. Freshman Sreenidhi Balaji’s lone win on the weekend cleaned up Lipscomb and allowed the Mountaineers to take home a close 4-3 win.
The Black and Gold have now seen five of their 14 matches come down to the final matchup. They are 1-4 in those matches.
App State will be in Boone for the next matchup as they welcome their first Sun Belt Conference opponent of the season, the Marshall University Thundering Herd for a Saturday matinee.
After that matchup, they will travel to Johnson City, Tennessee for a matchup against the East Tennessee State University Buccaneers Sunday. Both matches will begin play at 1 p.m. on their respective days.
