App State women’s tennis opened its spring season on the road in Chapel Hill to face off against the No. 3 University of North Carolina Tar Heels. The Mountaineers lost all 9 matchups, including 6 singles battles in straight sets.
Following her historic fall season, senior No. 5 Savannah Dada-Mascoll lost both of her matches against the Tar Heels. Her singles match left much to be desired as she only mustered 3 game wins across 2 sets against No. 23 Oby Kajuru, while her doubles affair with junior Taya Powell saw them run into the No. 1 player in the country, Reese Brantmeier. They lost 6-2.
Freshman Allegra Hodson was the lone Mountaineer to win more than 2 games in a set as she won 3 in her showdown against No. 51 Theadora Rabman but lost the second set. Hodson joined up with freshman Sreenidhi Balaji for a doubles match against No. 35 Tatum Evans and Anna Frey, losing 6-1.
Alexi Cleveland and Ruby Broadbent bookended the doubles competition for the Mountaineers as the sophomores won a single game against Kajuru and Susanna Maltby. They each lost their single matches 6-1, 6-0 and 6-2, 6-0, respectively.
App State women’s tennis continues its nonconference road schedule as the team travels to Blacksburg, Virginia Saturday to face off against Virginia Tech. The match is scheduled to begin at noon.
