Matchup: App State vs. Georgia

How App State Can Win:

If Appalachian State is going to pull off its second miracle in the FBS in the past decade, they’re going to need the type of game they had against Georgia Southern, but double that effort.

It’s hard to narrow the game down to one or two things that the Mountaineers will have to do well against the Bulldogs. They’ll need the best they can possibly get from Kam Bryant, Marcus Cox, Andrew Peacock, Tony Washington, Malachi Jones, Simms McElfresh, Deuce Robinson, John Law, Ronald Blair III, Karl Anderson, Adam Scott, their offensive line, their defensive line, their secondary, their special teams and their fans.

If App State is to make history once more with an upset, it’ll take all of the above. If there’s one game that the team can win that can make up for the record of this season, it’s this one.

How Georgia Can Win:

This will be the first meeting between the Bulldogs and the Mountaineers, but one thing remains clear, Georgia is tough.
The Bulldogs are certainly a powerhouse and they can defend the run game, allowing just 137.8 rushing yards per game.

They have to know that App State is going to come out with a push and they have to make sure they aren’t caught up in that. They have to continue to play their game like they have all year and they should come away with the win.

Both teams have a 3-4 defense and are very familiar with the scheme. Passing will be harder than it should; however, that shouldn’t limit them from getting on a run.

The Bottom Line:

It’s going to be tough for App State to go into Athens and pull off the upset. A tough game was predicted in 2007 before the Mountaineers walked into Michigan and solidified their place in history, so it’s possible that history can repeat itself.

Sports is the place where miracles happen, perhaps Georgia will be the next victim.

Final Score: 34-32, App State
