Matchup: Charleston Southern vs. App State

How App State Can Win:

The Mountaineers are coming off a good win at Elon and they will need to continue the good play if they are going to take down the undefeated Bucs. The victory would have been more definite had it not been for a comeback by Elon and App State will need to make sure it stays consistent throughout the game.

The recent combo quarterback strategy will get its second test of the year with both Jamal Londry-Jackson and Kameron Bryant to be under center. With Sean Price back in the lineup and Marcus Cox off his impressive game last week, App State looks solid offensively.

How Charleston Southern Can Win:

The Bucs are a running offense machine. They rank second in the Big South Conference in total rushing offense and they will need to push the ball at the Mountaineers at every possible moment, including some no-huddle situations. Junior running back Christian Reyes is currently third in the Big South in rushing at 87.5 yards per game, and he’ll need a big game in order to overcome App State’s balanced attack.

The Bottom Line:

Despite Charleston Southern being undefeated, it’s hard to imagine the Bucs coming into Kidd Brewer Stadium and beating an App State team on the rise. Despite a rare two-game losing streak at home for only the third time since 1996, the Mountaineers know that pride is on the line, as well.

The biggest question for the Bucs will be whether their defense can hold. A run-first offense versus two top SoCon quarterbacks doesn’t bode well for Charleston Southern. The key will be who can minimize big plays.

FINAL SCORE: 31-24
