Actor and comedian Nick Offerman of NBC’s “Parks and Recreation” graced a sold-out crowd of more than 2,000 at the Holmes Convocation Center with his comedy tour “American Ham.”
His main act, called “10 tips for a prosperous life,” was a combination of raunchy humor and sage life advice.
“Engage in romantic love,” was his first tip.
“Every day when I wake up, if I’m in love I don’t give a sh-t,” Offerman said about his wife.
He also touched on current social issues, namely gay marriage and marijuana legalization.
Gay marriage, he said in Parks and Rec character Ron Swanson-style, is fine, but “all the while vegetarians are f–king walking among us.”
Among his sage life advice was his tip No. 5, which was to get a hobby.
“Figure out what you love to do, then find a way to get paid for it,” he said.
During his act, he performed five original songs, including “The Rainbow Song,” which he wrote for his wife’s 50th birthday.
After his final tip, Paddle Your Own Canoe, Offerman closed the show with the song “Lil’ Sebastian” from “Parks and Recreation.” Fans of the show sang along at his request.
“It was pretty raunchy at parts, but really good,” said Bruce Thomas, a member of Appalachian Popular Programming Society who helped usher the show. “From the promotion side it went really well.”
Some of the members of APPS had the opportunity to meet Nick Offerman before and after the show.
“He was a really cool guy,” said Jeff Peterson, chairperson of the concerts council, was one of the lucky few. “He remembered my name. That’s how I judge if a celebrity is cool.”
The event was held by APPS.
