Crowds gather in a field across from Holy Cross Episcopal Church to enjoy vendors, food, and mountain music at the Valle Country Fair on Saturday in Valle Crucis. The Holy Cross Episcopal Church hosted the fair starting in 1979 and host it every third Saturday of October. Vendors are asked to “tithe” 10% of their proceeds to go toward serving nonprofits in the High Country.

It was my birthday earlier this month, Miller said. Miller makes a big fuss with her students each month to celebrate her students birthdays on the given month. Miller mentioned that we have to do what we can during the times of a global pandemic to keep a brighter mood.

Katie Knapp and Will Powell, a married couple from Asheville who have worked with AppHealthCare, volunteered for the day to administer vaccinations to patients. Knapp currently works for AppHealthCare remotely from their home.

Will Holt, the emergency services director for Watauga County, worked with AppHealthCare to form the logistics for administering the vaccine on Wednesday. Holt is also an EMT, who was on site in case a serious side effect occurs in the vaccination process.

Jessica Chute, a nurse at App State Student Health Center, received the Moderna vaccine. She called it the best Christmas present to get our lives back together. Chute shared her faith in the science behind the vaccine.

Tara is not receiving the vaccine on this same day but if she was given the choice she said she would wait for others to go first. Tara said she was there for moral support for Frank.

The team of nurses volunteered for Wednesdays efforts of administering the Moderna vaccine, starting at 9 a.m. and lasting until 4 p.m.

Jordan Reeder at the Watauga High School voting site. Reeder said this is the most important election to vote in, Everything is coming to a head. Reeder decided to vote on Election Day because he didnt trust mail-in ballots and thought it is an irresponsible voting method.

Arvil Sale working the polling site at Hardin Park where two precincts were grouped together due to COVID restrictions. Sale arrived in the area in 1967 with his attendance at Appalachian State University. He then spent his career teaching school for 33 years.

McKenzie Spivey voted for the first time at the Plemmons Student Union on Election Day. Spivey waiting till Election Day to vote due to having COVID and was unable to vote. Spivey stated that her experience with COVID was very important in determining who she would vote for.

William Andrew Bowman, a freshman, voted on Election Day due to being too busy until today. I would feel un-American if I didnt vote, Bowman said of his voting experience.

Annie Forgrave, a freshman business student, voted on Election Day due to having a busy schedule with MEPS and ROTC. This is Forgraves first time voting and felt stressed to participate in this election from family and friends who were pressuring her, I just felt like I had to.
