Starting a new streak

The streak is over

App State softball was in the midst of a very tough stretch of play before defeating Georgia State 14-5 on the road.

The win was App State’s first in the Sun Belt, but it also snapped a season-long 13-game losing streak that dated back to March 18.

Throughout the streak, the Mountaineers lost in a myriad of ways, including one-run games, double-digit blowouts and a few games that ended early due to the run rule.

Throw in a couple of weather-related cancellations, and the times were tough for App State.

However, now is the chance to start anew, more positive streak. With five consecutive games at home, it can be done.

Offensive explosion

It’s no coincidence that App State’s first conference win was fueled by one of the team’s most explosive offensive days of the season.

The team’s 14 runs was a season-high and the most since the Mountaineers tallied 13 in a win against Austin Peay in February.

The offense has struggled, leaving little room for error for the pitching staff. But, 14 runs will win on most nights.

If the Mountaineers can get into a home groove and notch more than 10 runs a couple of times, a new streak could certainly be on the horizon.
