The App State football roster has gone through a serious transformation in the off-season, losing 40 players to the transfer portal while accepting 36 transfers to the High Country, according to 247Sports. Of the incoming players, 14 are coming from Power Five schools.
OUTGOING TRANSFERS
DAVION DOZIER
The redshirt sophomore wide receiver three-star recruit Davion Dozier, who is transferring to North Carolina State University, goes into next season with 5 touchdowns and 448 receiving yards from just one season at App State. Dozier had a breakout game on Oct. 4 against Oregon State University, tallying 140 receiving yards and his longest reception of the season at 68 yards. His offensive abilities were a highlight this past season, with Dozier averaging 22.4 yards per catch.
AJ SWANN
The redshirt junior three-star quarterback is taking his talents to Mississippi State University, a member of the Southeastern Conference, after being injured in the final game of his only season at App State. During his time with the Mountaineers, he played in 7 games and totalled 10 touchdowns. Swann’s breakout game was the season opener against UNC-Charlotte, where he passed for 368 yards and 3 touchdowns. Mississippi State will be Swann’s third SEC university, as he was a quarterback at Louisiana State University and Vanderbilt University.
DOMINIC DE FREITAS
Freshman kicker Dominic De Freitas will advance his kicking career at the University of North Texas. De Freitas made 77.8% of his field goals on the season while kicking 100% from extra point territory. De Freitas successfully made his longest field goal of the season from 49 yards against Oregon State University. During his season, he averaged 7.4 points per game for the Mountaineers, tallying 96 points total.
JJ KOHL
Redshirt sophomore three-star quarterback JJ Kohl will transfer to Florida International University for the upcoming season. Kohl played in 8 games, where he averaged a 62% pass completion rate. His breakout game came in the third matchup of the season, where he had 309 passing yards in a 41-20 victory over Georgia State University. Although Kohl was originally positioned as the backup quarterback to Swann, he made a significant impact on the offense.
ZYEIR GAMBLE
Redshirt sophomore three-star defensive back Zyeir Gamble has committed to East Carolina University after two seasons with the Mountaineers. His defensive ability on the field made him a fan favorite as he tallied 76 tackles from 12 games, 37 of them solo. Gamble had a career-high 13 tackles against conference rival Old Dominion University. Gamble will face the new Black and Gold roster when the Pirates play App State Sept. 12.

MALACHI SINGLETON
Sophomore three-star quarterback Malachi Singleton is coming from Purdue University, where he appeared in 11 games with a 59.4% pass completion rate. Coming in as a dual-threat quarterback, he rushed for a season-high of 73 yards against the University of Minnesota, including a 40-yard rushing touchdown. Prior to the Boilermakers, he appeared in five games at the University of Arkansas, throwing for a 75% completion rate.
HENRY HASSELBECK
Redshirt freshman three-star quarterback Henry Hasselbeck is coming in from the University of California-Los Angeles. His father, Matt Hasselbeck, was a former NFL quarterback for 17 seasons, 10 of which were for the Seattle Seahawks. Henry Hasselbeck did not see action in his redshirt freshman year, but he served as the scout team quarterback.
TREYAUN WEBB
Redshirt sophomore four-star running back Treyaun Webb is coming from the University of Florida. As a Gator in the 2024 season, he was the second- string running back for the first four games before he was injured, which ended his season. Prior to the injury, he recorded 1 rushing touchdown against the University of Miami. He averaged 23.3 rushing yards, giving him 93 yards for the season. Due to his injury, Webb did not see game action in the 2025 season.
ZACH TAYLOR
Redshirt freshman three-star wide receiver Zach Taylor is coming from the deep southwest, the University of Arkansas. In high school — he played quarterback, where he had a 56% pass completion rate and was ultimately recruited as a receiver for his offensive abilities. He saw action in three games for the Razorbacks.
KESHAWN THOMAS
Junior three-star linebacker Keshawn Thomas is a conference pull, coming from Old Dominion University. He saw action in every game of the 2025 season, tallying 37 tackles and 3 sacks. Thomas had 2 tackles in his matchup against App State midway through the season, where the Monarchs ultimately won 24-21.
