The Mountaineers women’s soccer team traveled to Davidson to take on the Wildcats for the first time in over three years on Sunday, where the Mountaineers suffered a 1-4 loss.
The Wildcats struck first, taking a 1-0 lead. However, sophomore midfielder Olivia Simon followed with a goal of her own in the 13th minute thanks to strong defense from graduate student forward Izzi Wood, who gave the Black and Gold possession. Simon now has two goals on the year. This would be the only score for the Mountaineers.
The rest of the first half was a defensive stalemate and the score was tied 1-1 at the break.
Davidson scored three straight goals in the second half with the last one in the 54th minute to take a 1-4 lead that was too much for the Mountaineers.
App State had 11 shots to Davidson’s 10.
This loss means the Black and Gold are now 2-3-2 on the season.
App State will travel to Fort Myers, Florida, on Thursday for a match against Florida Gulf Coast with hopes of snapping their three-game losing streak. The game is slated for 7 p.m.
