App State men’s and women’s golf competed in separate tournaments this week, with the men competing in the Sam Ryder Intercollegiate and women in the UNC-Wilmington River Landing Classic with great performances from freshman Zoe Duval and senior Ben Read, who both finished fourth.
The Mountaineers’ women’s team placed fourth, improving its score in each round to finish 56-over par. App State was just 5 shots shy of third place. App State finished the final round with a team score of 301.
Duval led the Black and Gold women’s team with a fourth-place finish, shooting 1-under-par 71 in the final round, finishing the tournament at 3-over par.
Three App State golfers from the women’s team placed in the top 25. Freshman Alisa Pressley tied for 14th at 15-over while redshirt sophomore Salem Lee tied for 17th at 18-over, and junior Ona Lukes added a tie for 23rd.
Meanwhile, App State men’s golf competed, and Read delivered with a fourth place tie for a total of 216, having a 2-under final round that featured 5 birdies.
Senior Aidan Browning added a par 72 in the final round while seniors Alex Martin and Max Cranford each added scores of 74 as the Mountaineers ended the event.
Both teams compete next week on Monday and Tuesday, as the men host the Surf Club Invitational in North Myrtle Beach and the women travel to Hilton Head Island for the Low Country Intercollegiate.
