How do I vote on Election Day?
When voters arrive at their assigned precinct on Election Day, they will present an acceptable ID to a poll worker. Voters must be registered to vote on Election Day.
The list of acceptable IDs includes:
- North Carolina driver’s license
- U.S. Passport
- State and local employee IDs
- Student IDs
- Military IDs
- Veteran IDs
- Tribal cards
AppCards are acceptable forms of student IDs. Voters can also fill out a voter ID exception form if they cannot produce an acceptable ID.
Voters can also get an ID from the Division of Motor Vehicles or their county board of elections. Steps to get a free voter ID can be found at the North Carolina State Board of Elections website.
After presenting their ID, a poll worker will confirm the voter’s information and ask them to fill out an authorization to vote form. After signing the form, the voter will receive their ballot and will vote at one of the precinct’s voting booths.
After filling out their ballot, voters will enter their ballot into a tabulator in the precinct which will count their ballot.
