On Tuesday, App State baseball traveled to Asheville, North Carolina, to take on the UNC-Asheville Bulldogs. The Mountaineers delivered one of their best offensive performances of the season, taking down the Bulldogs 18-5 in a blowout win.
App State wasted no time getting its offense going and put the Bulldogs’ pitchers on their heels for most of the game. The Mountaineers’ lineup produced timely hitting and capitalized on their opportunities, which helped build momentum early and carried on through the rest of the game.
Sophomore infielder Ethan Puig played a key role in the Mountaineers’ offensive success, driving in multiple runs, including a 2-RBI single in the ninth inning that helped extend the lead for the Mountaineers.
Sophomore right fielder Riley Luft recorded an RBI double during the sixth inning, contributing to the Mountaineers’ offensive production. Junior designated hitter Kameron Miller also had an RBI double in the sixth inning, which helped build separation.
App State knocked the game out of reach by recording a 5-run ninth inning, shutting the door on the Bulldogs’ comeback hopes. Redshirt freshman catcher Brooks Wright delivered key contributions with a sacrifice fly ball and a bases-loaded walk.
On the mound, the Mountaineers’ pitchers limited the Bulldogs’ opportunities. While the Bulldogs scored a few runs between the fourth and seventh innings, the Mountaineers responded quickly and maintained control of the game.
One of the biggest takeaways from App State’s win was its lineup’s depth. Multiple players contributed RBIs and showed App State’s ability to produce hits. With the team’s win against the Bulldogs, the Mountaineers have extended their win streak to 3 games. They will return to the High Country and prepare for a three-game weekend series against the University of Louisiana Monroe Warhawks.
Game one will begin Friday at 6 p.m., game two will be played Saturday at 3 p.m. and game three will be played Sunday at 1 p.m. All three games will be streamed on ESPN+.
