App State men’s golf competed in the Irish Creek Intercollegiate Monday and Tuesday, finishing second in the event. App State women’s golf finished seventh in the Ironwood Invitational from Sunday through Tuesday.
The Mountaineers had the fourth-best total in round one, shooting 4 over par. Senior Herman Huus had the best score for the Black and Gold in the opening round, shooting an even par.
Round two was the strongest of the tournament for App State, going 1 under par, putting them in a great position to finish at the top, but Catawba College held a big lead going into the final round.
The third round saw the Mountaineers remain steady, shooting 3 over par as a team.
Catawba struggled, going 10 over. But the lead they built in the second round was too extreme, and they won the tournament by 2 strokes.
Huus finished with the best tournament score for the Black and Gold, tying for seventh at 1 under par.
The women’s team struggled in the first round, shooting 22 over par, with freshman Zoe Duval leading the way at 4 over.
Round two was the best round of the tournament for the Black and Gold, shooting 7 over, with Duval and freshman Alisa Pressley both shooting 1 over. The team tied East Carolina University and Campbell University for the best score of the round.
The Mountaineers shot 15 over in the final round, and the final total put App State at 44 over, finishing seventh in the tournament.
Duval and redshirt sophomore Salem Lee tied for 17th in the tournament, the best for the Black and Gold, shooting 9 over in total.
The App State men’s team travels to Bridgeport, West Virginia, to play in the Mountaineer Invitational Monday and Tuesday.
