App State softball traveled to Huntington, West Virginia to play against Marshall University from Wednesday to Saturday and fell in all three games.
In the first game, App State scored a solo home run from senior infielder Makayla McClain in the top of the first inning, which was also her 18th home run of the season. Marshall responded, gaining 3 more runs, which both teams were keeping steady, App State lost 3-1.
In the second game, App State once again got on the board early. McClain scored on an RBI from junior infielder Grace Barrett letting the Black and Gold start early with a 1-0 lead. Marshall responded in the bottom of the first inning with a 5 run inning.
In the fourth inning, App State had a home run from sophomore catcher Leah Gore. In the fifth, the Mountaineers added 2 more runs off a RBI double from freshman infielder Taylor Schafer. Marshall added runs in the fifth and sixth innings to end the game with a 12-4 win.
In the final game, starting out in the second inning, the Mountaineers scored 4 runs to take an early lead. Junior outfielder KB Bradshaw scored the first run with a single letting Schafer score. Freshman utility Madison Fletcher followed with a sacrifice fly letting Gore score. Junior infielder Macy Hamby was able to advance to third with Bradshaw scoring and sophomore outfielder Julia Girk singling to let Hamby score.
Marshall followed in the bottom half to gain 7 runs and then in the fourth inning added 3 more making the score 10-4.
At the top of the sixth, Barrett doubled to left field, her 40th RBI of the season, letting Girk and Hamby score, bringing the score to 6-10.
Sophomore pitcher Bel Varadi had a career best pitching 4.2 innings, only allowing 3 runs, which let App State stay close.
App State will play Gardner-Webb University on Tuesday at 6 p.m. and the game will be streamed on ESPN+.
