App State softball lost 3 games to the University of Louisiana-Monroe in a weekend series.
Game one saw the Warhawks take a quick 2-0 lead after a triple and a steal of home in the first inning. That ended up being the most runs that either team would score, and ULM took it 2-0.
Both pitchers were excellent in the series opener, with senior pitcher Sophie Moshos performing in six innings, only allowing the 2 runs in the first, but was ultimately outdueled by the Warhawks’ Ashanti McDade.
Game two was more of the same with the Mountaineers’ offense once again getting shut out by the Warhawks. ULM scored 2 unearned runs and won the second game by the same score as the first, 2-0.
Sophomore pitcher Bel Varadi threw five innings without allowing an earned run but recorded her first loss of the season.
App State scored its first run of the series in the first inning of the final game, a solo home run from junior infielder Grace Barrett. That was it for the rest of the game, as ULM quickly tied in the second inning, and the game remained tied at 1 after nine innings.
Warhawks pitcher Skylar Waggoner threw 10 innings of 1 run and recorded the win after a double to walk it off.
The Black and Gold scored just 1 run in the series, getting swept.
App State’s next game will be at home against North Carolina Central University on Wednesday at 6 p.m. and will be streamed live on ESPN+.
