App State women’s track and field found themselves at two different events Friday and Saturday in Blacksburg, Virginia and Winston-Salem. Breaking her record from last year, sophomore Lilly Nichols set the App State and Sun Belt Conference record in the indoor pole vault second section with a clearance of 4.27 meters.
Along with Nichols’ new record, App State saw 35 top-10 finishes across the two events. The Doc Hale Invitational was in Blacksburg, Virginia, while the Camel City Sprints took place just down the mountain in Winston-Salem.
In the long jump at the Doc Hale Invitational, freshman Alana Braxton placed second with a personal best of 5.98 meters. She also placed third in her second jump, while sophomore Jahaila Wright placed seventh.
In the Camel City sprints, freshman Tessa Massa ran a career best 10:03.81 in the 3,000 meters. Zaniya Littlejohn also ran a 25.08 to round out the sophomore’s event with a top-15 finish.
App State women’s track and field hits the track for the next time Saturday for the VMI Winter Classic. The event on Valentine’s Day is also the season finale for the team as they turn their focus to the Sun Belt Conference championships.
