Playlist of the week: Bruno is back, and his voice is as sexy as ever

With two collaborations in the top 10 of the Billboard 2025 Year-End chart and no solo album in over eight years, Bruno Mars has remained in the spotlight of pop stardom for over two decades. Following the release of his fourth studio album, “The Romantic,” Mars remains a heartthrob for generations with catchy hooks, groovy baselines and ageless vocals.

Mars is no stranger to critical acclaim and commercial success with his previous releases; his first three studio albums, “Doo-Wops & Hooligans,” “Unorthodox Jukebox” and “24K Magic,” all hold at least one Grammy win and No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Almost eight years later, his most recent hits, “Die With A Smile” with Lady Gaga and “APT.” with ROSÉ, both received multiple nominations at the 2025 and 2026 Grammy Awards.

Between solo projects, Mars released an album with Anderson .Paak under the group name Silk Sonic in 2021. “An Evening With Silk Sonic” won four Grammys at the 64th Grammy Awards with the single “Leave The Door Open,” leaving fans impatiently waiting for his next solo venture.

Announcing “The Romantic” via Instagram on Jan. 7, the lead single, “I Just Might,” was released on Jan. 9. Singing above a breezy conga beat, Mars lands on the chorus asking the DJ to “play a song for this pretty little lady.” Following an ad-lib stuffed intro, layers of intimate and witty penmanship accompany the big band-esque brass ensemble, which Mars uses to step back into listeners’ hearts.

Between ballads and party anthems, Mars’ catalog is stuffed with smash hits that continue to be spun at every millennial wedding year after year. The choruses of “Treasure” and “24K Magic” are infectious with catchy taglines, while ballads like “Just the Way You Are” and “When I Was Your Man” slow things down, proving that even a five-foot-five man’s heart can yearn.

All of these typical characteristics are strung through his latest project, “The Romantic.” Released yesterday, Mars’ fourth studio album finds him at his most effortless self: a sexy voice over an even sexier beat.
