SGA Cabinet: Thomas McNeil

Leah Rogers, Reporter

Director of Academic Affairs

Thomas McNeill

Year: Senior

Major: History, Social Studies Education

What inspired you to join Student Government?

I have always known several people in SGA who have inspired me heavily to get involved with this organization. It is also an amazing opportunity to create sustainable change on campus and be a part of something way bigger than yourself!

What drew you to your position?

During my time at Appalachian, I have worked in several positions that have helped me learn about different parts of academic affairs, such as SOUL and the Appalachian Student Ambassadors. I really wanted to take the knowledge I’ve gotten from those groups and apply it somewhere that can help to improve the experience of all students.

What is your biggest goal regarding SGA this year?

I hope to be able to not only help foster a healthy community in SGA and the academic affairs committee, but also to grow as a leader and serve as an effective advocate for the student body!

What are you looking forward to accomplishing this academic year?

The thing I am looking forward to accomplishing the most is to make the overall classroom experience more equitable for all students. During my time at Appalachian, I have seen and heard different complaints and praises from students past and present, and I hope to be able to create more classroom environments going forward where all students can feel comfortable, safe and that they are receiving the best experience possible.
