The Appalachian Theatre of the High Country will be displaying the No Man’s Land Film Festival presented by the Girls on the Run of the High Country on Thursday, March 5, from 7-9 p.m.
Mary Horine, the director of Girls on the Run of the High Country, wrote in a press release that the organization is an afterschool program that uses a running-based curriculum to inspire young women to be healthy, confident and joyful throughout their lives.
“Through a network of dedicated volunteers and staff, Girls on the Run of the High Country serves girls in Watauga, Ashe, Avery, Alleghany and Wilkes counties, helping them recognize their inner strength and limitless potential,” Horine wrote.
Since 2015, the festival has celebrated what it means to be a woman in adventure, sport and film.
The festival will feature 10 screenings, with Girls on the Run council members and guest speakers providing insight into the organization in between. Guest speakers consist of Tina Houston, owner of Reid’s Cafe;, Sherrye Trice, founder of Foscoe Home Team;, Lisa Rector, owner of Lumina Nails and Massage,; and Nancy Crawford, representing Girls on the Run.
Tickets can be purchased online and are priced at $15 in advance and $20 at the door. VIP tickets are $50, which includes both admission and a pre-film reception at 5 p.m. with drinks and appetizers. Girls on the Run participants, coaches and students all receive a $5 discount, and all proceeds from the event will go to Girls on the Run of the High Country.
