Chancellor search committee seeks student input
September 19, 2013
A student forum for the chancellor’s search committee will be held Sept. 25 in the Linville Falls room of Plemmons Student Union.
Michael Steinback, the University Board of Trustees chairman, is the spokesman for the chancellor search committee, making him the only member out of the 21-person committee permitted to speak on the group’s behalf.
“We are all here for the students,” Steinback said in an Aug. 28 article in The Appalachian.
The search committee has recently hired Baker and Associates LLC, an executive consultant firm, to assist in the university’s search for a new chancellor.
The company’s search process will begin by understanding the purpose, goals and needs of the university in order to find qualified candidates, said Vice Chancellor for Student Development Cindy Wallace.
The student forum will be used as a public hearing for students to voice opinions to the university and the consultant firm about what is important to them about Appalachian’s campus and what they value in a chancellor candidate, Wallace said.
Students are welcome to attend the forums being held Sept. 26 and 27 as well, Wallace said.
Dylan Russell, student body president, is the only student on the search committee and will lead the student forum.
