Hosted by University Recreation, the 50th anniversary of the Banff Centre Mountain Film and Book Festival returns to Boone for its 29th year. The festival will be held at the Schaefer Center for the Performing Arts at 7:30 p.m. from March 19-21.
The Banff Centre Mountain Film and Book Festival is a highly prestigious annual presentation featuring films and documentaries revolving around mountain activities and culture. Over 400 films have been submitted to the festival in recent years, with only select award-winners and audience favorites being chosen to play in theatres around the world.
In a press release from University Recreation, Jacob Norris, an outdoor programs coordinator for the organization, wrote in an email that the festival inspires the Boone community each year, making it a necessary part of the community.
“This festival is a highly anticipated event that has been an important part of the Boone community for over 20 years,” Norris wrote. “I believe that our audience will continue to be inspired by the diversity, enthusiasm and energy that each film highlights.”
“The Road Warrior,” a representative from Banff, travels to festival communities to give inside knowledge and background on the films or documentaries. They will be returning to Boone to curate film selections specifically for App State’s community.
Each night of the festival will feature three different film screenings, with live music and vendors being included in the experience. The film lineup was released Monday.
Tickets for the Banff Centre Mountain Film and Book Festival can be purchased online. Prices range between $15 for App State students and $20 for the general public.
