Moore was the head coach of App State football for 24 years where he went 242-134-2 and led the team to three NCAA Division I-AA Football Championships in a row, the first national championships for any North Carolina college football team.

Anti-abortion protesters gathered with signs on the intersection outside of Watauga Countys Government Center for the anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision in 1973. Roe v. Wade is a Supreme Court case that made state laws banning abortions, except to save the mothers life, unconstitutional.

People driving down King Street waved on the anti-abortion protestors. Anna Blackburn organized the protest, with others, for the 48th anniversary of the landmark Roe v. Wade decision.

During the protest, a Boone Police Department officer offered water to the protestors outside the Watauga County government building on King Street.

Anna Blackburn, who also petitioned Boones local government to lower the flags to half-staff for the anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision, organized the protest with her mother and brother. She stands in front of the rock-and-concrete county building sign holding a decorated paper sign.

Three anti-abortion protestors stand on the corner outside Mellow Mushroom across from the Watauga County Government complex. One protestor wears a hat from the Hope Center, a faith-based crisis pregnancy center on Howard Street. Crisis pregnancy centers provide support for people with unplanned pregnancies, but draw criticism for dissuading people from seeking abortions.

A 15-hour dance party hosted in February by Appalachian & Community Together to raise money to benefit children in the High Country.
